In 2002 East Lothian Museums Service produced an exhibition based around The Lord of the Rings, but also extending to cover the subject of fantasy writing and invented worlds. The exhibition was a focal point for dance and drama activities, creative and literary workshops and events. It involved working with libraries, arts services, schools and community groups, with a key aim of promoting literacy and creativity.
Activities and events associated with the exhibition included dance and drama projects, art- and literature-based workshops, the Library Service's Summer Reading Club, schools events and activity packs. The exhibition opened in May 2002 and ran for five months at Prestongrange Museum. It then toured over two years to venues across Scotland and the north of England Although the exhibition has now finished, this site preserves an online version and continues to make available the education resources we developed to accompany the exhibition, in conjunction with the Tolkien Society and with the suport of Excellence in Education through Business Links.
